I have always been considered “in shape” and everybody always asks me why I keep “dieting” if I’m already thin. I’m lucky enough that I have been trying to stay in shape for a very long time, so I have never had to go through any major weight loss regimens.
What I have done instead is keep myself at an average body weight for my size by lifting weights and eating different diets at different times. The problem with me though is these diets that I try always end up cutting out too much of what I really like or end up just being too difficult to handle with my lifestyle. When I hit a point where I just give up, usually a month in, I’ll just cave and start pigging out on all of the food that I shouldn’t be eating. Then I’ll be a few pounds heavier, a few pounds only I usually notice, but enough that I just messed up all of the progress that I was working on.
The reason I went on the paleo diet was because last Christmas I went home for the holidays. When I was home there wasn’t really much to eat at my mother’s house besides a lot of cookies. I gained 15 pounds in the week and a half that I was in New York.
I got back to Los Angeles a couple of days before New Years Eve and decided I wanted to find a diet/lifestyle that would fit my schedule and my tastes. Some girl I went on a date with a few months ago talked about the paleo diet and how she eats so much food that I love, but still lost a lot of weight. I loved the idea of eating a lot of meat and not having to count calories.
Early January I got on the paleo lifestyle and quickly noticed that I loved this new diet. I lost most of the holiday weight that I gained within just a few weeks. I started feeling more energenic and healthier all around. It hit me that my old diet of processed foods and gluten filled junk was making me feel lethargic and useless all of the time.
Still, I’m early on this diet, but I’m sure I’ll be sticking to it for a while. Will I be on paleo forever? Probably not. I have a personal goal that I want to hit, and then I want to modify the diet into my own fashion to keep eating clean so I can continue to feel great and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
